On June 7, 2018, Access Living was pleased to honor Roberta “Bobbi” Cordano with a “Lead On!” award. The award was in recognition of her long career focused on transformational change for Deaf and disabled people. Since 2016, Bobbi has served as the President of Gallaudet University, the first Deaf woman to do so.
Gallaudet is the only university in the United States dedicated to serving Deaf and hard of hearing students in a bilingual environment in both ASL and English; it is an epicenter of Deaf culture and draws students from around the world. Believe it or not, Bobbi was an intern at Access Living back in the 1980s; early grounding in a cross-disability perspective is very rare for a university president. Congratulations, Bobbi! It is our pleasure to recognize your work and cheer you on. Learn more about Bobbi at this video which was featured at tonight’s Gala on Navy Pier in Chicago.
